The giant of the motoring industry, General Motors, who own brands like Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Pontiac and Buick, have reveasleda line-up of new cars. Only last month General Motors recovered from 40 days of bankruptcy where the US Government invested $50 billion into the company, of which is now 60% owned by the taxpayers.
Now that General Motors have managed to get out of their bankruptcy rut, they are starting to look to the future and see how they can change. Within the past week, they have released details about the new ways they will be selling their cars. One method that started on August 11th was listing the new cars on the online auction site, eBay.
Last Tuesday, August 11th, General Motors invited a group of hand chosen consumers to Detroit for a special event. The event was comprised of showing off a series of new cars that will soon be released by the motoring company. After bouncing back after being struck by bankruptcy, the company have looked at their car models and are looking to make some new changes.
Currently the majority of their cars are large, gas guzzling tanks that although have been popular in the past, they are not so much now. To try and full in some younger clients to their showrooms, General Motors have designed a set of smaller and more fuel efficient cars for a number of their car brands.
There were a few cars announced, one that’s expected to become very popular is the Chevrolet Volt. This car is said to be ready for release sometime in 2010, it’s already gathered alot of popularity because of the number of miles per gallon it can do. Currently the car is estimated to be able to do 230 miles per gallon which is a huge amount and it drastically reduces the running of the car.
The other big announcement for new cars is the new model Cadillac. The new Cadillac is a new small sports sedan and it will have either rear wheel or four wheel drive. This new car is going to be smaller than the popular CTS model.
At the event General Motors announce a huge number of changes that will be coming to all their brands within the next few years. Some of the plans said included doubling the amount of cars in Buick’s range, giving them a total of 6 models. We’ll have to keep watching to see what new models are released first. Hopefully we’ll get some of these new models coming to the UK contract hire market. Currently, the only big American you can really lease is a Chrysler lease. Another possibility would be to go for cheap van leasing because they’re the closest size match to a Chevrolet.
