Dealerships use every means to get customers into the dealerships. Dealership advertising has to be one of the wildest things a dealership gets into. Obviously, they are in business to “play the numbers game.” Which, in layman’s terms, means bring as many people through the doors, and you will land a few extra customers.
Some of the most known ways of advertising is the ole’ “Loss Leader” scheme in the newspaper. Dealerships advertise a vehicle (usually an off color, damaged, or a demo) at an extremely low price. The consumer, when reading the newspaper says “wow, what a deal” and goes in to buy the car. Low and behold, the customer finds out the car is puke green, or has been damaged in some fashion (dealers need to disclose damage over 3% of MSRP or $600 by law). The other thing a customer may find out is that the car “was sold yesterday”, when really the car was sold days ago… what a shame! Then the salesman offers up a nice compromise like the nice colored model at a slightly higher price…sound reasonable?
The other way dealerships generate their traffic from advertising is the ol’ “freebees” deal. Ever read “come in for a free $100 worth of gas for a test drive?” This is a way to get customers through the doors because they know that when a customer gets behind the wheel of a new car and smells that new car scent, they are hooked. The real issue is that if a customer does not buy, the free gas is so hard to claim that it isn’t worth the hassle for a customer.
“Free food” is a way to get customers to stay around, because the longer they stay, the more apt they are to buy. “Slasher sales” are ridiculous! Dealerships raise the price way above what they would already sell the car for and then “slash” it to where they would have been advertising it in the first place. It’s all about emotions!!
Dealerships advertise low lease payments now…the newest trend. But look into the details, and you will find the drive offs are actually more than what a good down payment would be to purchase the car! 0% APR, what a crock! That just means dealerships are rolling the buy down into the upfront cost of the car!
Car Manufacturers and state governments are all cracking down on these practices, which is good to see. But lets be honest, a manufacturer wants to sell cars to dealers…so the more they sell, the better the manufacturer is. States (in these days), don’t have the resources to guard the consumer from deceptive practices, so dealerships fly under the radar. Consumer Advocacy Groups don’t have the time to check on every violation… so it comes down to YOU!
Don’t get caught up in these dealer scams. Make sure you know everything up front before even stepping foot in the dealership. Do your homework and stick to your guns. You will be happy you did!

A couple months ago you were tooling on down the avenue, minding your own business, this fumbling, stumbling man by the name of Freddie Fuddle flew through a Stop Sign and plowed into you with a gigantic, rip-roaring, screeching broadside. You were wearing your seat belt but it was still a thundering crash that wrenched and whipped you around the inside of your motor vehicle something fierce!
Now, after a long recovery period, Fuddle’s carrier, state auto insurance company is clamoring to close the case and they’ve assigned Claims Adjuster I. M. Strong, to handle your case. You and Strong are sitting at your kitchen table talking about your settlement dollars. It turns out he got some hang-up regarding your lost income. Well, here are some things you require to accept:
Lost wages are one of the most important element’s of your damages. Listen to me carefully when I say, “You should not think about the days you missed from work as Lost Time and Earnings. It’s not Lost Time and Earnings - - it’s Lost Earning Capacity?
You ask, that’s Lost Earning Capacity all about? I thought I could only collect for my Lost Income from student auto insurance. The answer to that is, many situations you can claim lost income EVEN IF YOU HAVEN’T LOST ONE SINGLE PENNY. For example, this can happen when your salary is paid because you’ve elected to apply for the sick leave that due you, or because of an Accident and Health Policy available for you to take advantage of, or some other such arrangement.
In most instances - - even if you were paid while out of work - - you should still get that money routinely identified as Lost Wages. Why? Because that’s your Lost Earning Capacity. Your Lost Earning Capacity is what’s called a Compensatory Damage. Don’t let Strong swindle you out of that Compensatory Damage. Even if you’ve received an income, in some other way, you’re still entitled to it. Strong will do everything he can to take advantage of you, especially when it comes to getting paid for your Lost Earning Capacity. During the course of every settlement negotiation he gets involved in, he’ll try that tactic on for size, and it’s mind-boggling how often he gets away with it.
TOTAL DISABILITY and/or PARTIAL DISABILITY: For every week of Total Disability (a fact which must be stated in your doctors Final Medical Report) you should use your gross weekly income - - even if you were paid! (For every week of Partial Disability your doctor states in that Final Medical Report, you have the right to claim a substantial percentage of your income, during that period, even if you didn’t lose any).
Because the following five points give value to your claim be ready to talk with Smart about and, wherever possible, prove:
(1) If your work demands heavy labor and/or lifting. (2) If you lost any vacation time or sick leave. (3) If there was any possible loss of money you could have earned in the future - - either with auto insurance company ratings or maybe other income you’ve got bubbling and boiling on the side. (4) If you had to forgo any bonuses. (5) If you lost an opportunity that would have led to a better job.
If any of the above five points are true than your claim is worth more money!
Car insurance is a legal requirement in the UK, but one in twenty drivers persist in driving uninsured. The police are cracking down, and it’s not just an idle threat ?if you’re not insured, your car could be in a crusher near you very shortly!
The police now have the power to remove, impound and crush any car found to be uninsured on the road. Last Spring, in Durham, the scheme coined operation Take away was piloted to great success. Over 1,200 cars have immediately been impounded 50% of those have already made it to the crusher.
Operation Take far was such a big success that it’s being rolled out nationwide. A new national police database that’s supported by the American auto insurance has given the police the ability to verify the insurance status of every car in the UK. They don’t even crave to get out of the car to do it.
If you are caught on the road with a car that is not insured, you will have to give up your car keys there and then. It doesn’t matter if it’s an accidental mistake or you have been driving uninsured for years, the penalty is the same ?your car gets impounded.
What happens next? Well they give you two weeks to produce an insurance policy certificate and take your car away. There’s a few amounts involved too. You’ll have to clear around to cover the expenses of the tow truck, and charges for keeping your car impounded many times reach ?5 a day. Leave collecting your car to the last minute and you could be facing an overall bill
.
If you can produce the insurance certificate and settle the charges, you can say goodbye to your car. The pilot scheme in Durham was funded in part by Direct Line, who helped cover the expensess of crushing the cars. According to them, up to 2,000 accidents were avoided thanks to Operation Takeaway. Since a enormous proportion of the cars found to be uninsured were in fact un-roadworthy, the roads were a considerably safer place without them.
As the police said, noninsured drivers are often guilty of many other offences such as not having a driving license or an MOT certificate. We are doing everything in our power to get these dangerous and illegal drivers off our roads.
It is a shocking fact that 5% of all drivers are uninsured, a criminal offence because it is a legal requirement. Extra research carried out by the Association of British Insurers has found that uninsured drivers are a dangerous presence on the roads, each uninsured driver causing an average of one accident every six months. They are also three times more likely to receive a conviction for driving without due care and attention.
Those of us who do have state farm car insurance quote cover the amounts of these uninsured accidents. On average, 60% is added to every car insurance policy to cover the amounts to the industry due to uninsured motorists. That means law-abiding motorists settle a whopping total of 500 million each year for those who can’t be bothered to settle up.
There’s another bitter pill to swallow. If you have an accident that’s not your fault with an uninsured vehicle, it will still go down as an adult claim on the average car insurance rates
. So you’ll have to clear the excess on your car repairs and you’ll lose your no-claims bonus unless you’re got claims protection. Over a two-year period, you could clear an extra 75 in premiums thanks to a reduction in your no-claims entitlement.
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) is in full support of this new scheme to rid the roads of uninsured cars. The ABI has been a critic of the way the British courts deal with uninsured drivers for many years at once, but they still don think this scheme is enough. Offenders usually only get a fine and they don’t have to settle immediately which truely doesn’t compare to the extra expensess incurred by motorists who do have car insurance. We agree something crave s to be done!
